EUIPO CP1 Project
Our Managing Partner, Reyes C. Estebaranz, represented INTA (International Trademark Association) and its users group in EUIPO CP1 Project related to the Harmonization of Classification issues in Europe, participating EUIPO, all the EU IP National Offices and Swiss IPO. This project started in 2013 and involved numerous meetings over more than a year. It successfully designed a new Classification system, where the use of Class Headings no longer imply protection for all Goods & Services included in the Class, determining as well which Class Headings of the Nice Classification are admissible (being sufficiently clear and precise), and which require further specification in accordance with the EU Court of Justice criteria. Subsequent achievements of this project were the modification of certain Nice Classification Class Headings, and key EUIPO classification tools such as Taxonomy and the Harmonized Database.

“It was a lot of fun meeting representatives from all EU IP National Offices and EUIPO, having very fruitful discussions that sometimes only ended over a nice glass of wine during the evening closing cocktail”
